Mr. Hattenbach is a registered patent attorney and practices
in the field of intellectual property law. His practice
includes the preparation and prosecution of national
and international patent and trademark applications,
the development and management of patent and trademark
portfolios, and the preparation and negotiation of technology
licensing agreements. He additionally counsels clients
regarding intellectual property portfolio development
and pre-market product clearance, and provides patentability,
validity, and infringement opinions. Mr. Hattenbach
also represents clients in litigation of intellectual
property-related matters in U.S. federal courts.
Mr. Hattenbach has:
- Prepared and prosecuted patent applications extensively
for medical devices, telecommunications, cable television
broadcasting, Internet and business methods, exercise
equipment, consumer health products, instrumentation
and gauges, and microwavable food packaging.
- Counseled start-up companies in the development
of patent and trademark portfolios in the fields of
nanotechnology, radio frequency identification cards,
and alternative energy technologies.
- Represented a Fortune 100 company in defense of
claims of copyright infringement.
- Represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent
infringement actions in federal courts.
- Represented several European companies in trademark
enforcement actions in the U.S.
Mr. Hattenbach received both his undergraduate and
law degrees from the University of Colorado, with his
undergraduate emphasis being in physics. While attending
law school, he was a student clerk for the Honorable
John L. Kane, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the District
of Colorado. Mr. Hattenbach's prior legal experience
was with the national law firm of Dorsey & Whitney as
well as two intellectual property boutique firms in
Colorado. He is licensed to practice in Colorado and
before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is also
admitted before the U.S. District Court for the District
of Colorado and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
